The world’s first, ‘Fusion Energy Café’
The modern and inspirational Café is housed in the Bridge Skills Hub in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.
This unique cafe is the result of a powerful collaboration between The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and Bassetlaw District Council, designed to support the development of facilities, infrastructure, and skills for a thriving fusion energy sector in the UK.
The café’s interior resembles the inside of a tokamak – a machine used in the creation of fusion plasmas – and its menu is inspired by the promise that fusion can be an environmentally responsible part of the world’s future energy supply.
Whether you’re grabbing a coffee, meeting colleagues, or exploring the future of energy, the Fusion Energy Café is a place where science meets community.
About the café
Upskilling and Inspiring the Local Community:
This community-focused initiative will support students studying Apprenticeships, H.E. or Return-to-Work programmes of study at The Bridge. Its aim is to support local people by providing the skills, knowledge, and aspirations needed to pursue careers in the growing fusion energy sector, contributing to regional growth and inclusive opportunity.
The Fusion Energy Café aims to actively engage the Worksop and wider Nottinghamshire communities in fusion energy and technical training, especially as nearby West Burton has been selected as the site for the UK’s prototype fusion powerplant. With funding from North Notts BID, the café also offers a community-focused element, providing training opportunities in hospitality and customer service to help local people build valuable skills.

About the café
The café will be available to book for community events and will be offering a mouthwatering menu.
Visiting the Café, will give you insights into the UK’s future for limitless, sustainable, clean energy and the host of opportunities that the fusion energy industry brings, with digital displays, guest talks and even the Café design itself. Both UKAEA and Bassetlaw District Council will host a series of events throughout the year.
We also encourage the local community to utilise the space for any activities that they may wish to run, whether that’s a book club, knit and natter group, or a dungeons and dragons session, we are keen that the space gets used by all.
