The world’s first, ‘Fusion Energy Café’

The world’s first, ‘Fusion Energy Café’ is now open to members of the public and the business community.

The modern and inspirational Café is housed in the Bridge Skills Hub in Worksop, Notts.  It is a unique collaboration between The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and Bassetlaw District Council and aims to develop the facilities, infrastructure, and skills to support a thriving fusion sector in the UK.

The café’s interior resembles the inside of a tokamak – a machine used in the creation of fusion plasmas – and its menu is inspired by the promise that fusion can be an environmentally responsible part of the world’s future energy supply.

About the café

Upskilling and Inspiring the Local Community:

This community-focused initiative will support students studying Apprenticeships, H.E. or Return-to-Work programmes of study at The Bridge.  It’s aim is to help with the levelling-up agenda providing local people with the skills, knowledge and aspirations that could see them forge a career in the wider fusion energy sector.

The Fusion Energy Café’s aim is to actively engage the Worksop and Nottinghamshire local communities in fusion energy and technical training, particularly as West Burton, Nottinghamshire, has been designated as the site for the prototype fusion powerplant.

About the café

The café will be available to book for community events and will be offering a mouthwatering menu.

Visiting the Café, will give you insights into the UK’s future for limitless, sustainable, clean energy and the host of opportunities that the fusion energy industry brings, with digital displays, guest talks and even the Café design itself.  Both UKAEA and Bassetlaw District Council will host a series of events throughout the year.

We also encourage the local community to utilise the space for any activities that they may wish to run, whether that’s a book club, knit and natter group, or a dungeons and dragons session, we are keen that the space gets used by all.

“This exciting collaboration will bring the process of fusion energy closer to our communities and help to inspire a generation of young people who could one day, work at the prototype fusion energy plant at West Burton or across wider STEM Industries. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)”.
David Armiger
Bassetlaw District Council Chief Executive
